Grizzlys BBQ
"When a man's stomach is full it makes no difference whether he is rich or poor." Euripides (BC 480 - 406 Greek Tragic Poet)
This is a dish my sister-in-law served up during a BBQ several summers ago, and the minute I tasted it I knew I had to have the recipe. It is NOT your usual pork and beans and is perfect for any BBQ or cookout. This is a hearty baked bean dish which can be prepared ahead of time, refrigerated and then heated when needed. What You’ll Need 1 Can (15oz) Kidney Beans 1 Can (15oz) Butter Beans - (or Great Northern Beans) 1 Can (15oz) Pork and Beans ½ Lb. Ground Beef ½ Lb. Bacon - Chopped (reserve several whole strips) 1 Onion - Chopped ⅓ Cup Brown Sugar ⅓ Cup Sugar ¼ Cup Ketchup ¼ Cup BBQ Sauce ¼ tsp Black Pepper 1 Tbs Garlic - Minced 2 tsp Dry Mustard ¼ tsp Cayenne Pepper 2 Tbs Molasses ½ tsp Chili Powder 1 tsp Salt How It’s Done Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Brown the 1st three ingredients together, draining off most but not all of the excess fat. Reserve several strips of bacon for the last step. Mix together all remaining ingredients. Add the browned meat mixture to the remaining ingredients and incorporate well. Place into baking dish and lay several slices of bacon on top if desired. Bake uncovered for 1 hour. If heating from refrigerated state add an additional 15 minutes. Tips Some GREAT options to think about….spice it up…add a little Tabasco, Chopped pickled Jalapeño Peppers, Poblano’s etc.....not too much, remember, you can always add more....but you can't take it away.
